Vanessa, Blake and Baby Russell

russell-1Vanessa here. 🙂 Baby Russell was born a whole week early but seemed to be full term at 19 inches and 7 lbs 2 ounces. I had been having what I thought were Braxton-Hicks contractions for about two days but they didn’t seem close enough together to be “time able.” On the 10th Blake and I went to bed somewhere around 10 pm but I started feeling these contractions more and more…closer together. He wondered if we should call the midwife and I felt that these contractions were pretty easy to get through so I didn’t think it was necessary.

Since I thought they were Braxton-Hicks I didn’t put on the CDs or light any candles. I just kept thinking “This is what my body was meant to do” “Every contraction brings me closer to my baby” “All is well.”

Around midnight they got close enough to time (about 5 minutes) but we still didn’t call the midwife. Sometime around 1:45 am on Friday the 11th I felt a contraction that rocked my world. Just like Sonja said it was definitely a “I need to run away from my body” moment. It was so bad it made me through up. That’s when we called the midwife. 🙂 Blake lit candles while I climbed in the bed and tried to rest in between contractions. Everything was progressing so quickly we had no time to setup the tub and the midwifes showed up 9 minutes before Russell was born at 3:07 am. russell-2

Just like Sonja I totally forgot about the pain the next day…and I’ll admit I’ve been in a bit of shock about everything. Everyone is doing well. Russell has been great just completely ravenous. After a few days he gained all of his weight back plus an ounce. He’s a very quiet baby for the most part just hates diaper changes and being hungry.

<< Thank you so much for the class. I guess the training just kicked in. I didn’t realize how far dilated I was! ??>
